It seems like they prove that every time they release a new game.

Even with the release of so many remakes, they even go for some very original ip's, I mean an iPod game? i never would have expected that. of course the game title is about as original as puzzle quest, but that is also a great life sucking game. but I digress, I think I'll be looking into getting this 'Song Summoner' game.

Chrono Trigger DS is comming

Square Enix show the fans some love.

Way back in the October 2004 issue of Game Informer, it was mentioned that Square-Enix issued a questionnaire to all japanese gamers who bought final fantasy I & II for the GBA asking which game they would most like to see on the DS including the Final Fantasy, Front Mission, and Chrono Trigger, Mana, and Saga Series, as well as others. well I guess they decided they would just release them all, because they keep churning the games out, and just when we think that things can't get any better. they release this site, http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ctds/ as well as an empty north American site http://na.square-enix.com/ctds/ so now I just have to wait...

can't get enough? well tough, a simple Google search will yield plenty of results, but all the sites have about the same info: "The Game is coming...sometime"

but still just the fact that this game exists makes me a very happy fanboy!

What happened to...

We all know that the Nintendo DS has some great RPG's, and it is great to see that companies such as Square-Enix are showing the love to the handheld rpg fans, but despite my love for the Final Fantasy and Dragon quest franchises, I want to see other companies give us something new. What happened to one of the coolest handheld rpg's; Golden Sun?

Golden Sun was one of the coolest rpgs to ever hit the GBA, the graphics, and special effects really seemed to push the system, it reminded me of an old school RPG on the PS1 but after the fairly successful sequel this game seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Ok, to be fair, talk of a sequel comes up now and again in the gaming news, but enough talk, let's see it already... even a re-release/ remake for the DS would be grand. as mentioned, Square-Enix is finding great success with remakes.

sorry for the fan-boy type post, just wishing out loud...er... on screen

Random Rant

This is just stupid...
guitar Hero DS? come on, looks like someone is tying to cash in

Wait, let me back up just a bit. First off. I love Guitar Hero. I originally got interested because of my love for Amplitude, a series that will sadly probably never see a sequel. I jumped in early, before much hype. when I brought it home my roommates looked at me like I was crazy. with my toy guitar slung around my neck (but of course they were hooked once they tried it).

Anyway, back to the point. I love guitar Hero, I love the DS. I don't think they should be mixed. I have been reading up on this version since it was announced but i'm still not convinced. plus all the little extra DS features, I fear they are messing with the formula.

if you ask me, I theorise that guitar hero will go the way of Tony Hawk, after three they were pretty much all crap. (Ironically also by Activision...)

So here's to Hoping I am wrong.

DS Strategy

Rondo of Swords

There is definitely no shortage of strategy games for the Nintendo DS. and Thanks to Atlus, we have another solid title to burn away the hours.
When you first dive into 'Rondo of Swords', you will most likely be a bit overwhelmed by the difficulty of the game. I took a few tries at the very first mission before I broke down and played through the tutorial missions. when I finally caught onto the mechanics of the game I realized that while Rondo shares many of the tried and true elements of strategy rpg's there are enough interesting and new elements for this game to feel fresh and old school all at the same time.

I for one am a fan of the strategy genre, so i am always glad to add another one to my collection, but they are always so long, I tend to lose interest in them before I finish them. Rondo is no different, this is a fairly long game, and given that you may be replaying missions over and over until you beat them will give the game more playtime. though this is probably not the kind of 'replay value' that most gamers are looking for.

Graphically this game has a simple 'old school' feel to it. The character sprites look good, and there are a handful of decent animations during the battle scenes. but most players will skip the scenes after they have seen them a few times. Over all it feels right at home on the DS, but does not push the hardware at all, and a little more polish and eye candy would not have hurt at all.

If you are a fan of Strategy Rpg's give Rondo of Swords a shot. you may like this one.

Crunchy Toast?

So now that you're here you're probably wondering why, right?

Crunchy Toast is me, and I am a nerd, and I love to play video games.
so stop on by to get random reviews on random games, or just hear me rant (sometimes incoherently) about my mild obsession. welcome to my game blog

as for the question of why you are here? you could always ask a Mormon missionary they are usually good at answering those tough questions...
